…and it’s beige, beige, beige all the way!
Never let it be said that I am reluctant to try new things. Hence this week’s experiment with Oaks Dreriora (I mean Aurora). I did go into its 67 stories with open eyes – trip advisor.com was not kind.
I did not experience any of the issues tripadvisor did with reception – however I did not bring a car, and my expectations were low. It was fine.
I believe you are supposed to ask for a high floor – I got 13, but I’m not afraid of 13 and I am afraid of heights so again, fine. Who needs to see the mountains when you can see into the offices across the laneway? It was fine.
At least one person complained that the pool was too small. Hello, 25m in Brisbane CBD is biiiig… But it was a nasty shade of green. And it smelled funny. But I did find 50 cents on the bottom. I can’t tell if it was heated or not. Yesterday when the weather was Singaporean it was too hot, today when the weather was Victorian it was perfect. It was Fine.
The apartment was good value for the money. I booked a one-bedroom and got two for $169 a night. I can live without a working exhaust fan, and a missing light bulb or three is trivial. But oh, the beige, the beige!
It is such a nasty nasty colour. Baby poo, horse poo, mud, rotten vegetables, nice images do not come to mind. I wonder what goes through the minds of people who choose beige? Restful, calming, lazy? Who can say?
My relief from the beige was the interesting pink stain on the bedroom carpet. Beetroot, fountain pen ink, copying fluid? Who can say?
Stamford Plaza, I miss you – get well soon…
