A rich jewel in an Ethiop’s ear
a rich jewel in an Ethiop’s ear;
Beauty too rich for use, for Qantas too dear!
It was recently reported in the SMH that Qantas cancelled its order for 35 Boeing 787 Dreamliners to cut costs. The SMH also reported the same week that Ethiopian Airlines took delivery of the first of 10 Dreamliners.
Curiously, it seems to have escaped comment that while the flagship airline of one of the richest countries in the world can’t scrape up the funds for a single Dreamliner, the flagship airline of one of the poorest is buying 10 and has another 32 other planes on order.
And Ethiopian Airlines not only made a profit last year, they returned nearly USD80M to Ethiopia in salaries and tax.
Well done, Ethiopian Airlines. Perhaps Alan Joyce will come for a visit.
