I hope they didn’t pay too much for that…
I was trolling around on the Liberal Party website this evening and I came across this funky little widget – Labor’s Interest Payments. You were invited to “Get Widget”, so I popped a copy here to see what it would do. I assumed they were real numbers fed from a magic Government database somewhere. Except if they were, they would always be the same as they are on the Liberal Party website. And they aren’t. Only sometimes.
I would find that quite weird, except that if you look at the code behind the widget, the numbers are just made up.
And actual Australian Government general government sector net debt and net interest payments aren’t “nearly $20m a day” as claimed. Interest paid in 2011-2012 was $5.873bn, or around $16m per day. Which is lower than they were during at least 7 years of Liberal Government.
Lazy journalism yesterday, lazy maths today.
Straighten up Tony, it’s embarrassing!
